With the United States having just experienced some intense political campaigning, we have now wearied that fateful day on the calendar that knocks on all of our doors every four years: election day. The results have aired, and you are either overjoyed or fuming in your seat. Whatever your standpoint may be on the current presidential election outcome, I think that we can all agree that the United States has had its run of successful (and maybe not so successful) presidents. And what better way to celebrate new and old with a top ten list of past presidents favorite meals. Yes, you heard right, because even the president of an entire country needs to sit down sometimes and enjoy a meal that transports them to taste bud heaven!
ONE—George Washington: Hoe Cakes Yes, you heard that right, Hoe Cakes! The beloved first president of the United States loved to enjoy a plate of hoe cakes slathered in butter and honey, paired with a steeped cup of tea each morning for breakfast. Unless you are a southerner or a foodie, I’m guessing you’ve got no idea what a hoe cake is (don’t worry, you’re not alone). Though it may look like a pancake, it’s not. A hoe cake is made with cornmeal, then fried up in a pan with oil or bacon grease and smothered in maple syrup (ok, fine, maybe it is a slight variation to a pancake). For your next breakfast, ditch the pancake mix and become a true southerner by flipping up some hoe cakes… you’ll be just like Washington himself!
