Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce: The new relationship that’s taking the media by storm. If you haven’t already heard, Taylor Swift is confirmed to be in a relationship with the Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce. Let’s dive into what we know about their relationship so far.
Taylor and Travis were first connected when it was revealed on Travis’s podcast with his brother that he had created a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, in hopes of giving it to Taylor at the Eras Tour show he attended. Then, towards the beginning of September, rumors began that the two were meeting up. When fans spotted Taylor attending a Chiefs game decked out in apparel and cheering next to Kelce’s mom, it was confirmed. What started out as a joke between brothers seemed to have manifested into a real relationship! After the game, Taylor and Travis were seen leaving the stadium together, and photos circulated of the couple driving away in a convertible (in true “Getaway Car” fashion). All of these signs of their relationship blew up the internet. The music and sports industries are being fused together by these two, and I’m all here for it!
Taylor’s most recent long-term relationship was with Joe Alwyn. The songwriter and actor were together for six years but were rarely seen in public together and kept quiet about their relationship to the media. In Taylor’s new relationship with Travis, she has been relatively open about it with the public. In her interview with Times Magazine for her 2023 Person of the Year award, she said, “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other; other people are there and we don’t care.”
After the relationship was confirmed, Taylor had a few tricks up her sleeve with some of the Eras Tour shows. With Travis in attendance, Taylor sang the lyrics to “Karma,” one of her songs from Midnights, as “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me” instead of “Karma is the guy on the screen, coming straight home to me.” This one-word lyric change shocked Swifties, and Taylor’s sweet smile after showed us how well the relationship is going.
Taylor’s attendance at Travis’s games has brought about mixed feedback, however. After the Chiefs lost a few games with Taylor in attendance, “some angry dads, Brads, and Chads” as Taylor calls them, have been criticizing her on social media, labeling her attendance as a distraction for players. However, I personally enjoy seeing Taylor supporting her man, and plus, her attendance is bringing more viewership for the games. Swifties love seeing pictures of Taylor with a huge smile on her face cheering for Travis.
Overall, I, along with many others, am happy to see these two happy. About their relationship, Travis said at a press conference before his game against the Vikings, “It feels like I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl—and right now, even more on top of the world.”
