Hi readers! I’m Olivia and I’m always on the hunt for good books set in the current season, so, here is my list of the best fall and winter books.
Fall
The Pumpkin Spice Cafe – Laurie Gilmore
This cozy romance book follows Jeanie who has been left her aunt’s café after she passed away and decides to leave her office job and look for a fresh start. Logan is a local farmer who does his best to stay out of the small town’s gossip train but just can’t help but be drawn to Jeanie. This heartwarming small town romance is perfect for fall because it takes place during the fall.
If He Had Been With Me – Laura Nowlin
This tragedy is a heartbreaking tale of two teenagers, Finny, and Autumn, whose mothers are best friends and have lived next to each other their whole lives. They’ve both liked each other at some point, but it never seemed like the right time. Will they finally confess their feelings for each other before it’s too late? This book is a quick read which makes it perfect for a rainy fall day.
It – Stephen King
This is a horror book that takes place in Derry, Maine which starts with seven teenagers who become adults searching for success, but none of them can truly escape the horrors of Derry and are eventually drawn back there to face this nameless creature. This is the perfect book for those who are superfans of the movies and are wanting to experience more of the horror.
A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder – Holly Jackson
This thriller is about a young girl named Pippa who decides to do her senior research project on an alleged murder that happened in her hometown of Fairview, Connecticut. As Pip sets out to prove the outcome of the case to be false, she recruits the alleged murderer’s brother, and they embark on a mission to prove the suspect innocent. This book is the perfect fall mystery for young adults.
The Naturals – Jennifer Lynn Barnes
This Thriller is about 5 teenagers with special abilities, such as being able to read people and their intentions, that the FBI recruits to help them crack unsolved murders. When a new murderer strikes, it becomes clear to the kids in the Naturals program that nobody is what they seem. The Naturals is another perfect teen mystery that will have you hooked for hours.
Winter
Caraval – Stephanie Garber
This fantasy follows Scarlett and her sister Tella who have never left their small island but have always dreamt of going to Caraval, a magical game that takes place on the mainland. When they finally find a way to get to Caraval, they realize that it is not what they expected. The objective of this year’s games are to find Tella before the five nights are over. Will Scarlett find her in time? This is the perfect trilogy to read over winter break.
In A Holidaze – Christina Lauren
This seasonal romance follows Maelyn who is visiting her family’s Utah cabin one last time, and as she’s driving away, she asks the universe to show her what will make her happy, all of a sudden she’s sliding on ice and crashing. She wakes up on a plane going back to Utah and must relive her vacation over and over again until she finds her true love under the mistletoe. This is the perfect book to get you in the Christmas spirit.
The Wish – Nicholas Sparks
This novel follows main character Maggie, a successful photographer who runs an art gallery in New York, with a less than perfect backstory. Maggie became pregnant when she was 16 and her parents forced her to give the baby up for adoption. (She hasn’t seen him since she gave birth.) Well, this Christmas, Maggie is struggling to come to terms with a recent medical diagnosis. Mark, her young new intern, helps her through these difficult times. Will Maggie find her son in time to say goodbye? This is the perfect page turner for the holiday season.
The Shining – Stephen King
This horror follows Jack who just got a new job as a caretaker at the Overlook Hotel during the winter when the hotel is closed for the off season. Jack sees this as the perfect time to get more serious about his writing career and to spend more time with his wife, Wendy, and his five year old son, Danny, who live with him at the hotel. Danny develops disturbing visions of the past of the hotel. This book is the perfect winter because of its chilly setting and tone.
Bear Town – Frederik Backman
Centered in a town with a reputation for being a hockey town, this year their junior ice hockey team has a chance of winning the national semi-finals. However after a violent incident involving one of the hockey players, their dreams of winning might be coming to a crashing halt. This is the perfect winter tragedy for hockey fans. (Go Rangers!)
