What songs are the best? What’s the album score? With all the popular hits, I’m glad to be reviewing one of the most popular albums of the month, “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” produced by Taylor Swift.
Welcome to New York
Rating – 8.9/10
This is a really good song. This song is energetic and catchy. The only reason it’s not scored higher is because it’s very repetitive. Besides that, her vocals are good, and they’re upbeat.
Blank Space
Rating – 8.8/10
This song gives me nostalgia for when I used to dance, and I would warm up to it almost every day. But listening to it now, it’s her best song out of the whole album. I really like how Taylor Swift is able to produce good beats, which improves her songs in general.
Style
Rating – 9/10
Never mind. This is her best song. I love the guitar that starts out the song and stays, which also creates such a fun beat. Her chorus is great, and it’s super fun to jam to. It’s energetic. It’s entertaining. It’s terrific. I would definitely recommend listening to this while driving with some friends or when you’re not feeling your best. This song will put you in a good mood.
Out of the Woods
Rating – 2/10
I haven’t listened to too many of her songs, but I recognized that she uses a lot of echo in them, and in this one, it doesn’t sound great. It sounds chaotic and a bit messy. Nothing is interesting about this song, and I’m trying to like it, but there’s nothing there.
All You Had to Do Was Stay
Rating – 7/10
This is a good song and definitely not as bad as the previous song. Besides that, I felt that there was something missing in there, but maybe that is just me. It’s good to jam out with friends or listen to while taking a walk; you do you, but I would take a listen and enjoy it; it’s not too shabby.
Shake It off
Rating – 8.9/10
Great song. The drums hold a strong beat, and the horns (I believe they’re horns) take it to the next level. This brings me back to when I used to listen to this song. Not going to lie, it’s still great and definitely scores high. This song definitely deserves its hype.
I Wish You Would
Rating – 5/10
Maybe it has, but I feel that this song would definitely be playing on The Summer I Turned Pretty. However, this is definitely not as great a song compared to the higher-rated songs in this review. It’s just… mid. It’s just messy.
Bad Blood
Rating – 6.7/10
More could have been added to this song. I’m not talking about more lyrics, but more instrumentals. Music. (Besides the chorus.) Yet, this is a decent song; I just don’t see myself listening to it for fun.
Wildest Dreams
Rating – 9/10
This is so relaxing, especially after listening to all of her high-energy songs. Her vocals are fantastic, and her music (instrumental-wise) fits so well. It definitely deserves a high rating.
How You Get the Girl
Rating – 5/10
To put it in the shortest way possible, the chorus is definitely catchy, although the rest of the song isn’t interesting. And to be 100% honest, this song is just… annoying.
This Love
Rating – 7.5/10
Great lyrics, good vocals, good music, and deserves good hype. It’s definitely a relaxing song and would be perfect during the summer.
I Know Places
Rating – 1/10
The intro is just bad, to be realistic. The guitar is nice, but the vocals are not great. Overall, this song is just bad.
Clean
Rating – 3/10
Unlike the previous song, this one has nice vocals, but the instruments and background music are uninteresting and make the song bad. Also, it’s just not catchy whatsoever. This song has potential, but I guess Taylor Swift couldn’t follow through with this one.
Wonderland
Rating – 3.9/10
It’s alright, but not great. I’m really trying to think of decent aspects of this song, but all I think is that it is chaotic and annoying. I know it might sound like I’m on a mean streak right now, but these few songs are rated poorly because they are poorly written and made. Do better, Taylor Swift.
You Are in Love
Rating – 7/10
I was considering this song to be a 6/10 or a 6.9/10, but listening to it again, I believe it deserves a solid 7. It is a good slow-love song. However, there’s this banging or chiming sound in the background, and it reminds me of sailboats swaying on the water and the rope hitting against the metal halyard. I grew up hearing that noise during the summertime since I live close to Candlewood Lake, so I would recommend this song during the summer, but you do you. Besides that, the banging or chiming noise in the song makes me cringe since it doesn’t blend well in the song. But overall, it’s much better than the previous few songs.
New Romantics
Rating – 8/10
High energy fun, and it’s a good song to listen to. Vocals are powerful and have a good melody. Likewise with the tune which makes this song good for parties/hanging out with friends.
“Slut!”
Rating – 5/10
I would say this song definitely focuses on a story rather than on a beat or melody, so it’s not really a catchy upbeat tune like a lot of her songs. (Which is fine, but it makes the song not unique or special.)
Say Don’t Go
Rating – 5/10
Being blunt, this is a boring song. It’s repetitive, and I was actually yawning when listening to this. This sounds cliché when paired with the rest of the songs of this album.
Now That We Don’t Talk
Rating – 7/10
Same as before, but it has better vocals.
Suburban Legends
Rating – 1/10
The beat stays the same the whole time; she was annoying in high school, and the song was just super boring. There’s nothing interesting or special about the song, so I personally wouldn’t recommend it.
Is It Over Now?
Rating – 5/10
It does sound like she puts a good amount of emotion into the song, which gains her some points, but the music and lyrics themselves is just repetitive, which then makes me lose interest.
Sweeter Than Fiction
Rating – 6/10
To start off, the drums & guitar sound good. The lyrics sound also good; however, there is not much vocal range throughout the song, which sucks because this song had so much potential. She just sounds like she is talking for some parts, not singing.
