What songs are the best?
How good is the album-score?
With all the popular hits of this year, I’m glad to be reviewing one of the most popular albums of the month.
This month, I will be covering one of the hottest albums, SOS, produced by SZA
“SOS” – Rating: 6/10
It’s a good song; she’s great at rapping, the background music hits, and it has a great beat but it lacks her great vocals.
“Kill Bill” – Rating: 9/10
I have always liked this song since it came out during the end of 2022. Despite it being a little psycho themed, it is always such a great song to jam to. From a musical perspective; the beats, the vocals, and the flow are all fantastic and mesh nicely together.
“Seek & Destroy” – Rating: 8/10
Her vocals are a bit redundant since she keeps singing the same vocals over and over, but besides that, the song is really good. The music and her vocals are really great, and I really appreciate that she’s following the beat.
“Low” – Rating: 9/10
Personally, I think this is such a great song to listen to at the gym. When you’re in the midst of working out, this song hits so well and has a great beat.
“Love Language” – Rating: 8/10
Love the opening guitar, the beats flow great with her, and don’t overshadowing her vocals. But I don’t think putting that filter over her voice later in the song was the best decision.
“Blind” – Rating: 5/10
To be factual, this song is not great. The lyrics, the flow, and even her vocals don’t make the song stand out. The only reason why it has a 5/10 is because of the beat.
“Used” – Rating: 7/10
Her vocals are amazing in this song and really show off her talent as a singer, but there is a lack of consistency and it keeps going on vocal runs. But overall, it is a great song and Don Toliver was a great choice of rapper for this piece.
“Snooze” – Rating: 10/10
I’m definitely biased on this song because I listen to it daily. Typically every morning before coming to school, I’ll listen to this song, and it helps put me in such a good mood.
“Notice Me” – Rating: 7/10
Don’t get me wrong, the song is a really good piece, but she overdoes it with her vocal runs which doesn’t mesh well with the beat. But besides that, her voice, the beat, and the background music are all great.
“Gone Girl” – Rating: 9/10
The beat and her voice mesh well together, and she even adds harmonies which make it so much better. However, when she’s not in the chorus, her vocals are a little redundant but not enough to take off points.
“Smoking on my Ex Pack” – Rating: 6/10
To be honest, it’s not a bad song; the majority is rap and the flow is great. However, it feels like the making of this song was rushed. There’s potential, but she didn’t deliver.
“Ghost in the Machine” – Rating: 7.5/10
The techno beats mesh well with her voice and her vocals help elevate the song. Even when she adds in harmonies, it makes all the aspects of her music enhanced. This is definitely a song that I would listen to in the future.
“F2F” – Rating: 7/10
The guitar and drums work well together and create a really fun beat which helps make her lyrics/vocals really catchy. However, the chorus kind of sucks. But everything besides that is really great.
“Nobody Gets Me” – Rating: 10/10
The guitar is such a nice intro into the song, such a great transition. But everything (the vocals, the guitar, the tone of her voice) is so beautiful. Such a great heartfelt song- she should definitely do more songs like this.
“Conceited” – Rating: 10/10
I’m personally not huge on rap, but this song is definitely the best one that I have ever listened to. The beat, the flow, the tone, the lyrics: everything works so well together. I definitely did just add this to my Spotify list.
“Special” – Rating: 9/10
I love this song. It’s a beautiful heartfelt piece that ties into insecurities and the feeling of being unloved. I would say she could have added more musical elements like piano to help her musically. But despite that, it was very nice.
“Too Late” – Rating: 9/10
The guitar in the intro is such a good decision: it leads right into the beat, and SZA just takes control. She stays on beat, creates a great flow, and her vocals are on point. But when she gets to the chorus, she adds more techno beats than necessary. She could have added a heavier guitar or just left it as it was prior. However, I do want to say it wasn’t a bad choice; I’m just saying that she could have done it differently.
“Far” – Rating: 10/10
This is another rap song in her album which sits super closely (or even ties) with “Conceited.” She adds more vocals to this one, which shows off her impressive voice.
“Shirt” – Rating: 10/10
I still remember listening to this song while doing dishes. I truly love this song, a mix of rap and regular plain singing. The hit of the beats mesh so well with her lyrics/voice and makes the song super catchy. Her vocals really are highlighted in this song and show off her talent as a singer.
“Open Arms” – Rating: 10/10
The guitar buildup is such a good choice. The guitar, the harmonies, and her vocals hit so well. Even with the techno beats and drums, everything is super simple yet highlights her talent so well. I definitely recommend giving this song a listen.
“I Hate U” – Rating: 8/10
Her vocals are great, but it doesn’t compare to the last few that I have rated.
“Good Days” – Rating: 10/10
This song gives me so much nostalgia, and it always makes me smile. It always reminds me of the summer time, or at least summer nights out with friends. This song will always remain a #1 on my list of favorite songs; the beats, the chords, and SZA’s voice is so beautiful in this piece.
SZA- SOS
