Architecture surrounds us. It is in the spaces where we live, work, and play. Some people like to be surrounded by basic buildings, and others like to be surrounded by intense and chaotic architecture. Here, I list the top 5 craziest buildings from around the world that will blow your mind.
1) The Bubble Palace in France
This is actually a residence, and many people live here. This was built by Antii Lovag, a Hungarian architect, about 50 years ago. It includes 1200 square meters, numerous swimming pools and waterfalls, a nice front area, and a 500-seat amphitheater. The palace is surrounded by many plants and trees, which gives it a “naturey” feel. To me, it looks like something from a cartoon. Imagine just waking up every morning and looking outside your bubble window. It is just an amazing sight. Overall, it is very beautiful and seems very fulfilling.
2) The Basket Building in Ohio, USA
This building was designed to be the headquarters of the Longaberger Basket Company. And I know you’re wondering what material the building is made out of: the whole outside of the building is actually made of locally sourced wood to create the real effect of a basket. The building is 180,000 square feet and costs up to 30 million dollars. It was finally completed in 1997. The Basket Building then became a tourist attraction. People from all over Ohio came to visit and be a part of the tours. Sadly, the last public tour was held in 2016. Overall, this building has a very charming and lively design.
3) The world’s first dynamic rotating tower in Dubai
Placed in the file of what could have been, the idea that was presented was that each floor moves in a circulating motion at 6 meters per minute, constantly shifting its shape. It is also powered by wind turbines and solar panels. The idea is incredible, and the way it works is just mind-boggling. It would be 1,378 feet high with 80 moving floors. The best part is that it offers 360-degree views of Dubai. The idea for this building was originally proposed in 2008 by architect David Fisher, but sadly, they never completed it. (As of now, they are still planning to build it.) Lastly, the estimated cost of the rotating tower would be 1.2 billion dollars. Overall, this would have been an amazing addition to Dubai.
4) Habitat 67 in Montreal, Canada
Originally built in 1967 as the major theme exhibition of the Montreal World Exposition, it created a new vision of urban-style living using prefabricated technology. Architect Moshe Safdie designed this amazing structure. Surprisingly, this is one of the most expensive places to stay in Montreal, with prices as high as $1.5 million. Habitat 67 includes one bedroom and four bedroom dwellings varying from 600 square feet to 1,800 square feet. As a bonus, each residence has its own roof-top garden. Overall, the building itself is very abstract and appealing to the eye.
5) The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, in Hollywood, Florida.
You might recognize this building or maybe even have visited it before because of its many commercials and popularity. It was originally thought of by architect Steve Peck and opened in 2019. The 450-foot guitar hotel has 638 rooms and suites with a pricey per room rate. One special thing that everyone loves to watch is the fantastic light show. Many colorful and amazing lights are shown on the outside of the hotel at night.
