Olivia Rodrigo has quickly become a household name among people all over the world. From her angsty music to her background in acting, Olivia is a very accomplished individual at only 21 years old. The Guts Tour, the stadium tour for Olivia’s sophomore album, GUTS, kicked off on February 24th, and fans have had the time of their lives enjoying her music and beautiful set.
Olivia has been singing and writing songs since she was 5, starting with her professional career as an actress, as Disney Channel fans know. Her first show was Bizaardvark, a series about two girls making funny and musical videos for their online channel. When this show began, Olivia was 13. She then appeared on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, a show about students putting on a production of High School Musical at their school, when she was 15. Olivia sang many songs for the first season of this show and wrote a song called “All I Want,” which started her musical career.
In 2020, Olivia dropped “driver’s license.” Fans were taken aback by the song, and it immediately became popular. The song hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the first song to have more than one billion streams in 2021. She then released SOUR, which included songs such as “Good 4 You,” “Deja Vu,” and “Traitor.” The album instantly became a classic, with each song telling unique stories and resonating with listeners everywhere. Olivia’s beautiful lyrics connect with many who have experienced heartbreak, growing apart from someone, envy, and the feelings that accompany the teenage years. After a very successful album release and the SOUR Tour, Olivia stopped making music for about two years. However, on September 8th, 2023, GUTS, was released. With songs including “vampire,” “all-american bitch,” “bad idea right?” and “teenage dream,” this album was another hit. This new album has a similar feel to its predecessor; however, it reveals a more mature, older side of Olivia. Yet again, the album connected with audiences around the world. After the release of GUTS, Olivia separately released a beautiful, soft, guitar-based song for The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbird and Snakes, titled “Can’t Catch Me Now.”
On September 13th, shortly after GUTS was released, Olivia announced The Guts World Tour, taking place from February 24th to August 17th. Openers include The Breeders, Chappell Roan, PinkPantheress, and Remi Wolf. On February 24th, the tour began. The Guts World Tour has a beautiful set, with vibrant purples and reds throughout. It even includes a large moon that Olivia flies around on while singing! The set makes for an even more entertaining performance. Olivia’s stage presence, amazing vocals, and lyrics are blowing crowds away. Compared to her Sour Tour, Olivia seems more confident in herself, and this newfound confidence is improving an already amazing performer!
On March 22nd, Olivia announced the deluxe version of her album, GUTS (spilled). It includes the popular and long-awaited song, “Obsessed,” along with some new tracks, including “Scared of my guitar,” “stranger,” “so american,” and “girl i’ve always been.” A majority of these songs have a different vibe than the rest of GUTS, with entirely guitar based sounds and less background. Also, this is the first love song we’ve heard from Olivia, so Louis Partridge must be doing something right!
Olivia has come a long way, and I, for one, can’t wait to see what she has coming next.
