Winter Sports Recap

Varsity Boys Basketball
Captains: Harrison Dignan, Dylan Gusler, and Kevin Stefanick
Coaches: James McGee and Tom Nelligan
Record: 9-11

Current Seasonal Highlights: Overtime thriller vs. Somers: 1-second buzzer to tie it up – lost in 2nd OT; win vs. Arlington on a Dignan buzzer beater in our last home game; home win over 1st place John Jay Cross River. The team made it to Sectionals!

Varsity Girls Basketball
Captains: Maggie DePaoli and Taylor Riccardi Coaches: Mike Castaldo
Record: 12-8 (8th seed in Sectional playoffs)

Current Seasonal Highlights: This season, our team has been tremendous from day 1. We have an incredibly unselfish team that works together and will do whatever it takes to win. Over the Christmas break, the girls defeated host Hastings in the John Costello Holiday Tournament. Meagan Beal scored 31 points in the championship game, earning All Tournament team, while Maggie DePaoli averaged 24 pts in 2 games, earning tournament MVP. Some exceptional individual performances include Kristen Stefanick with 19 pts (5 three pointers), 3 steals, and 3 assists against Carmel; Maggie DePaoli scored 27 points 2x, 25 points 1x, and has had several other 20 point games. Meagan Beal had 31 pts and 12 rebounds against Hastings, 20 points and 14 rebounds against Lakeland, and 20 pts and 10 rebounds against Pearl River. Grace Galgano had 14 points 2x (Somers and Panas).

Upcoming: Looking ahead, our team goal is to win two more games and advance to the semi-finals at the County Center. These eight girls have been unbelievable all year and have had a great opportunities, as well.

Cheerleading
Captains: Elena Cintron, Jenna Didomiz, and Shelby Montague
Coach: Tara Skiff

Current Seasonal Highlights: 1st Place: Arlington HS Competition; 3rd Place: Putnam Valley HS Competition; 2nd Place: Croton Harmon HS Competition. We worked our way up through the season – our scores improved and the team came together more with each competition. The highlight of the season was our very first competition at Ursuline HS where we scored a season high score!

Upcoming: We’re looking forward next year to going to Nationals and hopefully bringing home a Nationals trophy! We’re also expecting to have a full tumbling team and all-around successful season!

Dance Team
Captains: Jillian McNamara, Jenna Pinzur, and Bridgette Sanok
Advisor: Aileen Sanok

Current Seasonal Highlights: With new members Elisha Choi, Eliana Choi, Angelina Soccodato, Alexis Shelley, and Diana Magnan, Dance Team had a season with 16 girls! The captains successfully taught the team new performance numbers and pleased the Homecoming crowd with 2 routines!

Upcoming: We look forward to the new choreography and dances this new season brings. The dedicated captains and their dancers look forward to the eruptive cheers from the crowd as they surprise spectators with new formations, moves and music. The remaining team members look forward to welcoming new members at tryouts, to be held in the spring.

Gymnastics
Captains: Diana Limitone and Mykala NievesCoach: Vin Savastano and Jen Hershman
Seasonal Record: 11-1-6

Current Seasonal Highlights: Each gymnast improved her own skills. Nicole Aponte had an amazing season, achieving and surpassing her personal best scores. Teamwork and team chemistry was constant and at an all-time high.

Upcoming: We look forward to improving upon our record and continuing to perfect our more difficult skills.

Varsity Ice Hockey
Captains: Connor Henderson and Kevin Moroney; Yorktown: Connor Sullivan and Justin Groux
Coaches: Tom Andreacclio and Bob Fritsch
Seasonal Record: 14 – 5 – 1

Current Seasonal Highlights: The two teams blended together really well and bonded better than most teams. We were successful against some of the top teams in the state, which included Mamaroneck and Suffern.

Upcoming: We are hoping to win a Sectional Championship and have a run at States. Although not an easy task, that’s what we work for every day in practice. We are well-prepared and give 110% every game.

Skiing
Captains: Chris McCarthy, David DiMinno, Sophie Lester, & Keegan O’Connor
Advisor: Coach Bellucci and Coach Rusinko
Seasonal Record: Girls 12 – 5; Boys 6 – 11

Current Seasonal Highlights: Charlotte Green, Sophie Lester, Chris McCarthy and Keegan O’Connor (All-League skiers) qualified to compete in Sectionals. From the girls’ team, Charlotte Green, Sophie Lester & Keegan O’Connor placed first at Sectionals, making them the Section One champions and All-Section skiers. Sophie Lester placed 3rd in the Slalom and 3rd in the Skimeister – a combination of all four runs.

Upcoming: The three girls will be racing at the Alpine Skiing States on 2/26 & 2/27 at Bristol Mountain. The team looks forward to representing BHS at States and hopes to qualify for Easterns as All-State skiers. Good luck to them!

Step Team
Captain: Susan Adeyeye
Advisor: Sarah Barnes

Current Seasonal Highlights: The team performed at the Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Basketball home games during half-times. We were invited to perform at the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert and rocked it! Senior Night was a huge success – we stepped to the music and featured Leah and Gabrielle Santalis twirling! This year’s team is the most diverse and accomplished team in BHS history!

Upcoming: We will be performing at Pace University as well as participating in more Varsity team activities. We’re looking forward to teaching the Mr. Brewster candidates a Step routine for their performance at the Mr. Brewster Spectacular!

Winter Track and Field
Captains: Will Ford, Erik Jacobsen, and

Current Seasonal Highlights: Elsa Neubauer broke the 1000m school record twice, while Marissa Crowley broke the 600m school record twice. Ryan Lenahan, Scott Jacobsen, Erik Jacobsen and Geo Zanetti are an All-County 4x800m relay team as well as state qualifiers for the 4x800m relay. Also, Brianna Sayegh, Florence Cuomo, Marissa Crowley and Elsa Neubaur are an All-County 4x800m relay team as well as state qualifiers for the 4x800m relay. Josh Herman, Will Ford, Ryan Neubaur and Jack Panagrossi all broke 5-minute miles for the first time. Ryan Lenahan, Erik Jacobsen, Scott Jacobsen and David Alade are state qualifiers in the 4x400m relay.

Upcoming: The girls’ 4x800m relay team is looking to make the New Balance Nationals; Marissa Crowley is looking to make States in the 600; Elsa Neubaur is looking to make State in the 1000m. Ryan Lenahan is looking to make it into the State Qualifier meet for the 600m; Scott Jacobsen is looking to make it into the State Qualifier meet for the 1000m; Erik Jacobsen is looking to make it into the State Qualifier meet for the mile or two mile, and both the guys’ and the girls’ 4x800m relay teams hope to make it to Penn Relays for the spring season.

Swimming
Captains: Victor Cai and PJ Farrell

Seasonal Record: 14-5-1

Current Seasonal Highlights: Last event against New Rochelle was a nail-biter which resulted in a 51.5-42.5 victory, during which Victor Cai swam the final leg of a 400m free relay. Senior night was meaningful with team shirt distribution and speeches given by the younger swimmers on the team. A few of the swimmers on our team moved on from Divisionals to Sectionals and onto States, where we all wish them well!

Wrestling
Captains: Grant Cuomo, Alex Goldberg, Lewis Grana, and Jack Muentener
Coach: Tom Looby, Mike Ford, Nick Ghellarducci

Current Seasonal Highlights: Ten of our wrestlers placed at Divisionals and moved onto Sectionals. Cody Hamblin placed 6th at the Sectional Tournament at 126 pounds. Grant Cuomo emerged victorious at the Sectional Tournament and is a contender for NYS Championship at 170 pounds.

Upcoming: We hope that everyone is healthy and uninjured next season. We plan on having more Sectional placers and champions in the coming years. Many of our wrestlers are doing off-season training, and we hope to do well in the Team Sectional Tournament.
