Boys Varsity Basketball
Captains: Lucas Cabiati, Will Dignan and Matthew Thompson
Coaches: Mike Nicastro, Glenn Niles,and Jason Weltman
Seasonal record: 5-15
Highlights for the season included an upset playoff win against Mahopac in the Sectional tournament. It was the biggest win in Brewster Boys basketball since 1992. The team was very glad that the fans showed up to the game and gave the players the energy to win. Next, they are looking forward to bringing back some starters and working hard in the off-season.
Boys JV Basketball
Captains: Luke Cunningham, Jack McKenney, and Brody Snyder
Coach: Glenn Niles
Seasonal record: 6-14
Seasonal highlights included beating John Jay at home and multiple standout games from Jack Mckenney including a 27-point game against Riverside. The team is looking to keep improving over the off-season and have a better record next year.
Girls Varsity Basketball
Captains: Bri Franklin and Jordan Niles
Coaches: Michael Castaldo and Matthew Cunni

Seasonal record: 15-5
This season, the team won the league championship. Highlights throughout included Liv Francis scoring 28 points against Yorktown, Bri Franklin having over 5 double doubles the whole season, Jordan Niles and Liv Francis getting All Section, and freshman Lauren Leon getting All-League and scoring over 300 points this season. Since the players had a young team this season, they believe that the team is going to be very strong next year.
Girls JV Basketball
Coach: Mike Honey
Seasonal record: 12-6
This season, Kate Ryan had 27 points in one game. They also beat Fox Lane by 2 points, 40 to 38. The players all had a lot of steals and break away lay-ups. Next, they hope to improve on their seasonal record by continuing to practice in and out of school, going into next year strong.
Unified Bowling
Coach: Donna Schneider
All Special Education athletes participated in the games this season. Brewster hosted multiple matches at Carmel Spins Bowling against other schools. All of the Special Education athletes had a great time participating in the games. The team all hopes that there will be more volunteers next year to help participate with the athletes.
Varsity Cheerleading
Captains: Viviana Pacurucu and Ariana Torke
Coach: Kelsey Stockton
Varsity placed 2nd at the Putnam Valley Tiger Tournament and 3rd at the Mahopac Snowflake Showdown. In their first season ever, JV placed 1st at the Mahopac Snowflake Showdown. Varsity members Keanu Tshamba, Viviana Pacurucu, Ella Riofrio, and Ariana Torke received All-League. Ella Riofrio and Ariana Torke also received All Section.
They hope to continue to build the program next year with both Varsity and JV. They are excited to start off-season workouts to build skills before attending NCA camp in August. Their goal is to compete in Game Day competitions during the fall season to prepare for the traditional winter season.
Girls Varsity Gymnastics
Captains: Sanna Blad, Sammi Miller, and Bianca Torke
Coaches: Jennifer Purcell and Vincent Savastano
Seasonal highlights for the team included Sammi Miller and Bianca competing at Divisionals. At the Navis meet, Sanna Blad placed first on bars and beam while Emelyn DeGregory placed 2nd on floor, and Devyn Hoahing earned first on vault and second on beam. For the future, the team plans to gain even more athletes next year and work on getting some new skills!
Boys Ice Hockey
Captains: Matteo Guastadisegni (C), and James Munoz (A)
Coaches: Ryan Langkafel, Paul Murphy, and John Veteri
Seasonal Record: 11-10-1
This season, the team managed a 7 game winning streak and made it into the first round of the playoffs, into overtime. They are hoping next year to make another playoff run.
Girls Ice Hockey
Captains: Adrienne Kantrowitz, Kathryn Lonergan, and Lindsay Smith
Coaches: Sean Lonergan and Stacey Wierl
Seasonal record: 10-3-2
In the inaugural season, the 2023-2024 North Avalanche team had a great season with many unforgettable highlights. Some of those included: the North Avalanche overtime wins against the East Green Wave, the Morgan’s message dedication game, the senior night give back game, and their unforgettable trip to upstate New York. Not only did the North Avalanche win the league championships against the East Green Wave but the North Avalanche also deservingly claimed the title of Sectional champions in their inaugural season.
In future upcoming seasons, the North Avalanche goals and expectations looking forward are to continue to grow the girls ice hockey program in Section 1, while also continuing to grow the sport of girls ice hockey by
inspiring the younger generation. In the upcoming season, the North Avalanche will not only continue to build skill on the ice but also build their character and family.
Boys Track and Field
Captains: J’Den Thomas, Mark Fedio, and Stefan Thomas
Coaches: Michael Bellucci, Will Ford, and Lindsay Cavanaugh
The boys placed second at leagues, J’Den Thomas and S
tefan Thomas went All-League, Stefan Thomas tied for first for High-Jump. J’Den Thomas was the league runner up in the 55m Dash and the 600m dash. A few boys earned All-County, and J’Den Thomas was the 55m dash County champion with the fastest 55m dash ran by a Brewster sprinter since 2006. J’Den Thomas broke the indoor 200m school record and qualified for Sectionals for the 55m dash. The boys 4x200m relay of Jackson Margi, Kevin Cantrol, Ethan Elibox and J’Den Thomas ran the fastest 4x200m time from Brewster in the last 5 years. Sophomore Ethan Elibox ran the fastest 55m dash by a sophomore from Brewster in school history. Looking ahead, they are preparing for a great outdoor spring season.
Girls Track and Field
Captains: Alex Agustin, Adeline Benvenuto, Valentina Brenes, Jae King, Katie Mejia, and Nia Lurin
Coaches: Michael Bellucci, Lindsay Cavanaugh, and Will Ford
The girls team had a great winter season with strong performances at all of their meets. Starting off, the Yale Track Invitational was a highly competitive meet in which Charly Handal, Jae King, Rebecca Anderson, Ava Chica competed the 4×400 meter relay. Next was the Section 1 League Championships where the girls’ hard work and dedication paid off. With the 55 meter hurdles, Charly Handal and Isabella Pelaez took home gold and silver with Handal running 9.84 seconds, and Pelaez running 12.55 seconds. On long jump and triple jump, Jae King took both second and third in the league, jumping 13’4.25 and 28’1.5. Charly Handal also got second in high jump, clearing 4’0. Alex Agustin took second in pole vault, with a height of 7’0. The girls’ throwers also had great performances in shot put, with Jeannah Dossous taking second with a 27’11, and Adeline Benvenuto taking third with 24’02. Jae King, Charly Handal, Ava Chica, and Rebecca Anderson took home silver for the girls 4×200 meter relay, running the fastest time in eight years. Their time was 2:02.58. The performances from all the girls led to the girls’ team taking second in the League Championships. The 4×400 meter relay and the 4×800 meter relay both placed third. The girls then competed at the Section 1 Northern County Championships. Charly Handal, Jae King, and Alex Agustin received third in their respective events: 55 meter hurdles, long jump, and pole vault. Nearing the end of the season, Charly Handal’s consistency in the 55 meter hurdles allowed her to compete in the Section 1
State Qualifiers, which held the Section’s top runners.
Compared to prior years, the girls’ indoor team had a large showing, which really helped them push each other. Whether it was the countless indoor practices, or the hours spent in the armory, the girls still kept improving. The girls are looking forward to spring season, keeping up with their successes and showcasing their hard work and dedication.
Varsity Skiing
Captains: Mia Crivelli and Michael Rusinko
Coaches: Michael Bellucci and Kirsten Rusinko
Mia Crivelli, Michael Rusinko, Lucas Crivelli and Derrick Crivelli all made Sectionals. Mia and Lucas Crivelli made it to states, as well. The team is hoping to bring more people to the team in the future!
Wrestling
Captain: Ian Sutherland

Highlights for the season included Ian Sutherland becoming one of two wrestlers in Brewster wrestling history to make it to the semifinals at Eastern States. Ian is looking forward to becoming a national champ in college.
