Brewster High School’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society held their 8th annual Math-a-thon on Saturday, April 1st. The Math-a-thon is an event that invites 3rd graders to interact with the members of the honor society by engaging in different math activities throughout the day, all while raising money for St. Jude’s Research Hospital. This year, about 100 members worked tirelessly to keep the third graders happy and busy, all while learning some math. From 11 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon, the kids moved from table to table, completing the math workbooks supplied by St. Jude’s. As the students completed the workbooks, they were sponsored, which is how the club raises money for the hospital.

Some other activities included a scavenger hunt, constructing bridges from pipe cleaners, and learning about and meeting the math superheroes by the names of “Octagon” and “Fraction.”

The 3rd graders also learned more about St. Jude’s Research Hospital during their lunch and got to take a break from the math by playing a variety of games in the gym. This year, a total of almost $2,500 was raised for St. Jude’s Research Hospital. It was a fun day filled with laughter and excitement all for a good cause.
