Victor Diaz: A Teacher’s Perspective

Below are excerpts from the letters of recommendation for Victor from two of his high school teachers that are referenced in the related article.

“…He is an innovator, a compromiser, the one who can negotiate with others for a successful outcome. He is both a problem-solver and a collaborator. Courteous and respectful, Victor utilizes all these skills in all his endeavors. He has earned the esteem of my colleagues and his classmates.

…Even as a freshman, Victor displayed an uncommon command of information and a truly vibrant enthusiasm for the American political system. His questions and insight far exceeded his peers, and he was able to clearly articulate his ideas with poise and confidence. Victor’s passion for government and for service is actually edifying. His personal commitment reminds each of us to consider and reconsider the importance of active and positive participation in the American system.

…He is a young man who has already contributed to the definition of America in the 21st century, a young man who epitomizes all the Senate Page Program is looking for.”

“…Victor and his fellow students, as sophomores, attended Columbia University’s Model United Nations conference last year…Promoted to serve as one of the senior officers of the club this year, Victor has helped to ensure other students could attend both times. He has actively organized fundraisers, built preparation packets on a variety of historical and foreign policy issues so that other students could experience simulations, and has chaired committees using Robert’s Rules of Order. This year his primary responsibilities were logistical, calling hotels, booking coach bus transportation, arranging for metrocards and coordinating payments for services with various vendors. Victor’s level of responsibility has been extensive, and he has not disappointed. He has been an indispensible asset this year, and is in line to continue serving in a leadership capacity next year.

…As a part of Model UN, Victor has played the role of many historical figures over the course of his 3 years here in Brewster.

Fascinatingly, one of his best performances was playing the role of Senator Schumer in a mock conference on the 2008 financial crisis.  His passionate and tenacious attempts to push through financial regulations and to hold banks and

corporations responsible for malfeasance would have made the real Senator Schumer quite proud.”    …As a part of Model UN, Victor has played the role of many historical figures over the course of his 3 years here in Brewster.  Fascinatingly, one of his best performances was playing the role of Senator Schumer in a mock conference on the 2008 financial crisis.  His passionate and tenacious attempts to push through financial regulations and to hold banks and corporations responsible for malfeasance would have made the real Senator Schumer quite proud.”
